A colour that is vivid on a monitor may be unattainable on the material you are printing.
Screens emit light and packaging reflects it, and the range of colours available differs substantially. Some vivid screen colours simply cannot be reproduced in standard process printing.
Material matters too. The same ink on uncoated board, coated card and a metallic substrate produces three different results, and none of them matches the monitor.
The workable approach is establishing what is achievable on the actual material first, and designing within it — rather than approving artwork on screen and discovering the gap at proof stage.
Because the shelf decision starts further away than the design was reviewed. A shopper scans a section from a couple of metres, and whatever is unreadable at that distance does not participate.
Design reviewed at full size on a screen, at arm's length, gives no indication of this. The name that reads clearly on a monitor can disappear entirely on a shelf.
Printing the artwork at actual size, pinning it up, and stepping back is a five-minute test that changes more packaging decisions than any amount of on-screen review.

Worth considering. Packaging that works on a shelf may be illegible as a small thumbnail, and increasingly that is where it is first seen.
