Membership Website Development

Membership Website Development Built Around Renewals, Not Signups

A membership site is easy to launch and hard to sustain. Signups are the visible part; renewals decide the business. Membership website development means getting access control right, handling failed payments and expirations properly, and making sure members keep finding reasons to log in.

Why Choose Us

We Build for Month Twelve

Most membership problems appear at renewal, and most membership sites are built for signup.

Access Control That Holds

Content protected properly rather than hidden by a template check anyone can bypass.

Renewals Handled

Expiry, grace periods, failed cards and recovery, designed rather than defaulted.

Tiers Modelled

What each level includes, decided once instead of scattered through the code.

Cancellation Handled Honestly

What happens to access and content afterwards, defined clearly.

Public Surface Indexable

Members-only content stays out of search; the pages selling it should not.

Membership Sites, Explained

What Does a Membership Site Have to Handle?

Four mechanisms, all of which cause problems if left to defaults.

Discuss Your Membership →
  1. 1

    Access by Tier

Who can see what, enforced at the data level and not only in templates.

  2. 2

    Recurring Billing

Renewals, upgrades, downgrades and cards that fail.

  3. 3

    Expiry and Grace

What happens the day a membership lapses, which is a policy decision.

  4. 4

    Ongoing Value

Members renew because they used it, which makes engagement a product problem.

Our Process

How We Build Membership Sites

Define the tiers and the lifecycle first — they determine everything else.

  1. Define Tiers and Access

What each level includes and how it is enforced.

  2. Map the Lifecycle

Join, renew, lapse, cancel, return — each with defined behaviour.

  3. Build Access and Billing

The two systems that must be correct.

  4. Build the Member Experience

Onboarding and navigation that lead to actual use.

  5. Instrument Renewal

Engagement and churn measured from launch.

Retention

Why Failed Payments Are a Major Churn Source

A significant share of cancellations are not decisions. They are expired cards nobody followed up.

What is involuntary churn?

A member who intended to stay and lost access because their card expired, was replaced, or was declined once. They did not choose to leave.

Handling it means retrying on a sensible schedule, notifying the member through more than one channel, and giving a grace period rather than cutting access immediately.

It is unglamorous work that recovers members who already wanted to stay, which makes it a better use of effort than most acquisition activity.

Why does engagement predict renewal?

Because renewal is a judgement about value received, and value received is roughly proportional to use. A member who has not logged in for three months cancels when the reminder arrives.

That makes onboarding and ongoing engagement product features rather than marketing activities. The first week after joining is disproportionately predictive of whether year one completes.

Measuring login frequency by cohort tells you who is at risk long before the renewal date, which is the only point at which intervention is still cheap.

They Did Not Decide to Leave

Churn reports treat cancellations as decisions, which invites analysis of pricing, value and competitors. Some of it is that.

A substantial share is a card that expired. The renewal failed, an automated email went to a folder nobody reads, access disappeared, and a member who was perfectly happy became a former member without ever making a choice.

It is the cheapest churn to recover and the least interesting to work on, which is roughly why it stays unaddressed on most membership sites.
