Social Media Audit

Social Media Audit Including the Accounts Nobody Remembers

Most organisations have more social accounts than anyone can list, created by former staff, agencies and enthusiastic departments. A social media audit finds all of them, establishes what each is doing to your name in search results, and produces a decision for each: keep, revive, close, or reclaim access to.

Why Choose Us

We Look for What You Do Not Know About

The account causing the problem is usually one nobody mentioned in the briefing.

Everything Found

Including accounts created by people who have left.

Access Established

Who controls each one, which is often nobody currently employed.

Search Impact Assessed

What appears when someone searches your name.

Consistency Checked

Details matching across accounts and listings.

A Decision Per Account

Keep, revive, close or reclaim — not a list of observations.

Social Audit, Explained

What Does an Audit Find?

Four things, and the first is usually the most valuable.

Request an Audit →
  1. 1

    Forgotten Accounts

Dormant profiles ranking for your name.

  2. 2

    Access Gaps

Accounts nobody currently at the company can log into.

  3. 3

    Inconsistency

Different addresses, hours or descriptions across profiles.

  4. 4

    Impersonation

Accounts using your name that are not yours.

Our Process

How We Audit Social Presence

Find everything first. The rest is straightforward once the list is complete.

  1. Search Exhaustively

Every platform, every variation of your name.

  2. Establish Access

    Who controls each account.

  3. Assess Impact

What each does in search results.

  4. Check Consistency

    Against your listings and site.

  5. Decide Each One

    Keep, revive, close or reclaim.

Access

Why Nobody Can Log In Is So Common

Accounts get created by individuals and are rarely transferred when those individuals leave.

How does access get lost?

An account is created by a member of staff, an agency or a contractor, tied to their personal email or their individual login, and used successfully for years.

They leave. The email is deactivated, the credentials go with them, and the account continues to exist and rank for the company name with nobody able to change it.

Recovery varies by platform and is generally slow, sometimes requiring proof of ownership the company cannot easily produce. It is much easier to prevent than to fix.

What should happen to a dormant account?

Revive it, close it, or update the profile so it directs people to where you are active. Leaving it as it is means a stale profile represents you to anyone searching.

Closing is not always right — an account with a good name and some history may be worth reviving, and the handle may not be available again once released.

The minimum acceptable outcome is that the profile text and links are current, so that even a dormant account sends people to the right place.

It Was Set Up on Someone's Personal Email

Social accounts get created quickly, usually by whoever was asked to do it, using whatever login was to hand. It is a two-minute task at the time and nobody documents it.

Years later that person has left, their email is deactivated, and the account continues to exist — carrying the company name, appearing in search results, and completely beyond anyone's control.

Recovery is slow where it is possible at all. The five minutes it would have taken to create it on a company account and record the credentials is the cheapest insurance in marketing.
